I’m Sorry That You’re Jaded: Why You’re Cynical About Love
The modern dating scene can be exhilarating. You never know who you’ll meet, and you can never tell how you’ll fare with people you match. It is that unpredictability that adds to the excitement and intrigue.
Then again, for many people, dating can just be as exhausting — emotionally and physically.
How?
Repeated disappointments can burn out even the most seasoned dater. In other cases, they become disillusioned by their lack of progress. Some folks just feel hopeless looking at their failed prospects.
If one (or a mix) of these situations apply to you, it’s safe to say you’re jaded by the thought of love and dating.
The Signs of (Romantic) Jadedness
How can you tell if you’re in a state of jadedness? These signs may give some clarity to your feelings:
#1: You believe people are all the same.
You may be someone who’s had a significant-sized dating pool. If not, you’re probably a person who’s had recurring unpleasant matches. Whatever your circumstances are, your experiences have led you to think everyone is the same.
#2: The sight of love annoys you.
As you go about your day, you happen to spot a string of happy couples. When you see them, you can’t help but feel annoyed and pessimistic.
Thoughts like, “Oh, he’ll just cheat on her” or “They’ll break up eventually” run across your mind. It’s as if you can’t process the fact that some people are happily in love.
#3: You’re scared of love.
Maybe you’ve been brokenhearted more times than you can count. Or perhaps you’ve placed all your hopes into one person, only to end up being hurt by the very person you put all your trust in. Your scars have left you reeling, closing yourself off to romantic possibilities in the process.
#4: You realize you’re looking in the wrong direction.
Maybe you feel jaded because you learn you’ve been seeing the wrong people. You know you’re settling for not-so-great partners, yet you look for them and stick around anyway. This self-sabotage makes it harder for you to see love in a positive light.
#5: You’re convinced that you’re a hopeless case.
You know you’re jaded about romance when you believe no one’s out waiting for you. Why bother dating people when no one will give you a second look? The truth is, this pessimism has clouded your heart, making you refuse to accept even a small ounce of hope.
#6: You believe love is an illusion.
Of all the signs on this list, this one is, perhaps, the saddest realization.
You’ve tried hard to look for love. Unfortunately, you always end up disappointed whenever you think you’ve finally found it. This is why you’re convinced love is nothing but a sham and that no one’s capable of giving it wholeheartedly.
People say it’s never great when you have too much of something. Jadedness and cynicism are no exceptions. It’s understandable if you’re jaded about your romantic prospects, but don’t let it turn you into a total cynic.
You may not have the love you want now, but there is still hope for you. Someone will come along and love you the way you deserve to be loved. With over seven billion people on this planet, you’re bound to find somebody special.
