Go On a Day Date This Valentine’s

A collage of day date ideas for Valentine’s

Candlelit dinners are the usual go-tos for couples on Valentine’s Day. Such nights are nice, but I’m here to tell you that there’s more than one way to celebrate the romantic holiday — and at an earlier time at that.

Enter the day date.

This concept was the subject of a previous entry. It talked about its logic and benefits while sharing some ideas.

We’ve all heard of the “early bird catches the worm” saying. There is truth to that. Starting our days early helps us make the most out of them. Why not do that on Valentine’s?

Date Night Dilemmas

Don’t get me wrong: date nights are still awesome! And on an occasion as special as Valentine’s Day, they remain special. But as fun as they are, they have their downsides (like everything else).

One, we don’t always have energy when the sun sets.

As the evening creeps in, you’ll likely be exhausted from your day’s activities. This is especially true if you and your partner work nine-to-five jobs. If your schedules stretch until nighttime, you’ll be too zoned out to have a good time.

Two, more businesses are open during the daytime.

While there are spots that are best visited at night, the fact is that people tend to do more stuff while the sun is up. This means that you have more date options.

And three, the date night concept can get stale.

Dinner dates are a classic for a reason, but let’s be honest: they’ve been done to death. Swapping your night out for a brunch date is a welcome breath of fresh air.

Early to Rise, Early for Love

I know it’s tempting to snooze your alarm and beg for five more minutes of sleep. But trust me; waking up early can be worth it.

Day dates happen when your energies are either rising or at their peak.

Work hasn’t sapped your spirits, and no one has pushed your buttons yet. Mornings are usually filled with optimism, so they’re great for sneaking in quality time.

And since they happen early, you don’t have to worry about reservations, long lines, and traffic. There’s no need to rush to get a table for two. You can enjoy your hot cup of coffee and warm croissant without looking over your shoulder for queuing customers. The morning is yours.

How to Pull Off Day Dates on V-Day

These dates aren’t the most traditional, so it might take time for you to get used to planning for them. Fortunately, they aren’t too tall an order.

These dates are often simple ideas that aren’t taxing to actualize. Sure, a breakfast date at home takes effort, but you don’t have to go anywhere (and spend money as a result), upping the convenience factor.

You may only have a few hours, but these dates tug on the heartstrings. Maybe it’s the soft sunlight hitting you both. Perhaps it’s the fact that you started your day together. You can’t pinpoint the exact factor, but it just makes the rest of your day brighter. Who wouldn’t want an extra pep in their step?

Whether you’re short on Valentine’s date ideas or don’t have the luxury of time, a day date solves both problems. Make your 14th happier and start it right.
